Solution
The only solution worth considering for column splicing
Sometimes precast columns are very tall and also heavy. This is a big challenge for precast factories and construction sites. It can be hard to find suitable lifting systems for very heavy columns, and their transportation often requires special equipment because of the length of the columns.
The only noteworthy solution for column splicing was developed by Peikko. With Peikko’s column shoe connection, you can design your columns in shorter pieces and splice them together on-site. The connection can be made as strong as the column itself. Assembly of the columns is very quick, easy, and safe. No temporary bracing is needed: the connection transfers assembly-time loads immediately when the nuts are tightened. And the excellent adjustment possibilities guarantee accuracy in the frame structures.
How does the Peikko solution work?
The upper column with cast-in column shoes is fixed to anchor bolts, which are cast into the lower column. Fixing is achieved with nuts and washers screwed to the anchor bolts. It is also possible to adjust the column to the correct level and vertical position. The joint between column head and column base should be grouted before loading of the column. When the grout has hardened, the joint functions as a reinforced‑concrete structure.
Peikko’s column shoes and anchor bolts have been subjected to rigorous testing programs and are suitable even for environments facing seismic stresses. The system is widely approved in various countries. Peikko also offers free design software and technical support, to make the use of the system as easy as possible from design to erection. Let us help you splice your columns with ease!
