The OSD (Oversite Development) is a 6 storey structure part of the new underground station currently being built at Bond Street in central London. During the construction of the new station the OSD will act as a crane hall for the tunnelling operations and contains a 20T gantry crane. This presented the design team with a problem of having to solve the very high forces in the frame but still build the structure within the DFMA (Design For Manufacture And Assembly) philosophy of the JV partner Laing O’Rourke. Due to the forces a conventional precast frame solution was not possible so Peikko Deltabeams along with Peikko SmartPlates where chosen along with precast columns & hollowcore decks.
All parties worked closely tighter to resolve a very complex design and the building is now complete in it temporary state whist work is continued on the underground station. Then in about 2 years’ time when work is complete the crane will be removed from the OSD then the L1 & L2 floors will installed and the building will be completed as a traditional retail/residential structure.
